Smyrna and Linebaugh branches of the Rutherford County Library System were honored to have Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett visit their locations on October 8, 2020, to award grant checks from the CARES and TECH funds for use in the libraries. While at the Smyrna Public Library, Branch Manager Ginger Graves was able to give Secretary Hargett and TN Representative Mike Sparks a tour of the library and share how the library is working to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus while still serving the community. RCLS Board Member Judge Lynn Alexander and Stones River Regional Library Assistant Director Kate Huddleston also participated in this important event.
At Linebaugh Public Library, Secretary Hargett presented RCLS Director of Libraries Rita Shacklett with two grant checks and spoke of the important role our libraries play in the community. Joining the Secretary for this event at Linebaugh were Tennessee Representative Mike Sparks, Representative Tim Rudd, Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron and RCLS Board Chair Rollie Holden.
The library system will use these funds to purchase new computers, networking equipment, video conferencing tools and cleaning supplies.
