Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) is pleased to announce additional in-library online access to another newspaper archive. The Morning Press (also known as the Murfreesboro Press) archive is now available through our partnership with Newspapers.com (part of the Ancestry.com company).

In July, Dr. Payne Hardison signed an agreement to allow Newspapers.com to digitize the microfilmed archive of the former newspaper. The archives date from 1978 to 1983. Dr. Hardison and Donald Keith owned the publication when it closed in 1983. Keith passed away in November 2011 leaving Hardison as the sole copyright holder of the paper.

“We are indebted to Dr. Hardison and his wife, Evelyn, for their willingness to support community researchers by providing this valuable historical resource,” says RCLS Supervisory Associate, Lisa Ramsay.

Newspapers.com is the largest online newspaper archive consisting of 300+ million pages of historical newspapers from 7,500+ newspapers from around the United States and beyond. Newspapers provide a unique view of the past and can help us understand and connect with the people, events, and attitudes of an earlier time.
