It’s been a fun and busy summer at the Myrtle Glanton-Lord (MGL) Branch of the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) that is housed in Patterson Park Community Center. MGL Branch Librarian, Brittney Reed-Saltz, who was hired in April to take over the reins there, is enjoying her new role.
“My favorite part of the job so far,” says Reed-Saltz, “has been getting to know the patrons and the community. MGL might be small, but it has the potential to make a huge impact on people’s lives.”
Reed-Saltz has worked for the Rutherford County Library System for the past five years, starting as a Library Associate at Smyrna Public Library in 2013, before being promoted to the role of Supervisory Associate there in 2014. Prior to working for RCLS, she worked part-time in circulation at McIver’s Grant Public Library in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Inhabiting various roles before starting her library career, Reed-Saltz has worked as a secretary, a proofreader, editor of a literary magazine, a tutor, and a landscaper.
Reed-Saltz studied English and psychology at the University of Tennessee - Martin. After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in 2011, she earned her MLIS from the University of Washington - Seattle in 2013. She is a member of the Tennessee Library Association.
A Woodbury native, Reed-Saltz has lived in Tennessee for her entire life. She currently lives with her husband, Jeremy, in Murfreesboro.
RCLS Director Rita Shacklett says, “I love watching our employees grow in their skills and be able to rise up to new positions and challenges. I’m so pleased Brittney is leading the work at MGL, and look forward to great things ahead for that branch and her patrons.”
