Kathleen Tyree announced as new Branch Librarian of the RCLS Technology Engagement Center

The Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) is pleased to welcome Kathleen Tyree as the new Branch Librarian for the Technology Engagement Center (TEC).  When the position became vacant just prior to the July 18, opening, a search was begun for a new manager for the TEC.

Tyree is no stranger to the library system, as she has been with RCLS for nine years, all of which were at the main branch, Linebaugh. Beginning as a Library Associate, Tyree was promoted to the position of Supervisory Associate, and ultimately to her current position, in 2014, of Circulation Supervisor. Prior to her library career, Tyree worked as a designer and manager in two signage companies.

A member of the Tennessee Library Association, the Public Library Association and the American Library Association, Tyree has recently earned her MLIS from UT-Knoxville. She’s served on the Rutherford One Book Committee since 2014, and is a member of HARC, and the Downtown Murfreesboro Business Association. She recently traveled to Washington, DC, as part of the Tennessee State Library Delegation for National Library Legislative Day.

Tyree lives in Lascassas, with her husband, Steve. They have two grown daughters.

“Kathleen has been a great asset to the Linebaugh staff,” says Linebaugh Branch Librarian, Carol Ghattas. “She knows the work of a library at all levels, which gives her great insight into both patron and staff needs. She will do an excellent job in leading the cutting-edge Technology Engagement Center, though we will miss her very much at Linebaugh.”

The newly-constructed Technology Engagement Center is located at 306 Minerva Drive, and is the first shelfless library in the state of Tennessee, and one of the few in the nation. RCLS Director Rita Shacklett joins the Rutherford County Library Board and staff in welcoming Kathleen Tyree to this new position.
