Myrtle Glanton Lord Memorial Library, nestled inside Patterson Park Community Center, doesn't have a dedicated programming space. Instead, for the past two years, the library has rearranged furniture to make space for its regular story hours. Those story hours, taking place at 10:00 a.m. on Fridays, will be continuing throughout the summer.
"We won't be taking a break in May, so come on and join us," says Emily Polny, who runs youth services at the branch library. "If we outgrow our space, we'll open up another session." Beginning in June, the library will be hosting special guests and events for each Friday story hour.
Jerome Azbell, the branch supervisor, is excited about the upcoming schedule. "This is the most ambitious summer program since I took over the branch. We got our feet wet last year with a couple of well-attended events, and this year's program will benefit from that."
The events, part of the Linebaugh Library System's "Build a Better World" summer reading program, will continue in the 10:00 Friday morning time slot, beginning June 2 with the Mad Science! opening event and concluding on July 28 with a picnic and a chance for attendees to give back to the community.
